I added an SAE Connector to my battery to facilitate quick, easy, & clean connection to a battery charger/maintainer.

NOTE! On the SAE Pigtails I bought, The wire colors are backwards. The black wire needs to connect to the positive (+) side of the battery. The red wire needs to connect to the negative (-) side of the battery

To "fix" this, I "colored in" the red wire with a black sharpie to make it less confusing (shown in last photo only).

Instructions

  1. Line the SAE Connector Pigtail up to the battery and cut the black wire (positive battery connection) a bit shorter
  2. Solder ring terminals install ring terminals onto a premade SAE pigtail
  3. Screw the new wire harness onto the battery
  4. Optionally superglue & fusion tape a small magnet to the SAE connector to be able to attach it to the bike frame when not in use
  5. Color in the red wire with a black sharpie to avoid +/- red/black color confusion

Parts List

  1. SAE Connectors Pigtails w/ Dust Caps
  2. Terminals w/ Heat Shrink
  3. Charger
  4. Charger SAE Adapter
  5. Small Magnet
  6. Super Glue
  7. Fusion Tape
  8. Soldering Iron
  9. Solder
  10. Heat Gun
  • Another popular option for connectors is Anderson Powerpoles. I like the SAE particularly because of the available molded pigtail w/ dust caps.
