A family vacation to Washington State seemed like the perfect opportunity to take our 1 year old son on his first backpacking trip to beautiful Sheep Lake in the Washington Cascades. The fairly short 2.5mi hike in to Sheep Lake was all dad could handle with a 60 lbs pack. We also should have realized that a 1 year old can't sit in a car all morning and a backpack all afternoon! Once we got to the campsite though the rest of the 3 day, 2 night, trip went great! We slept at Sheep Lake and did a day hike on day 2 to the Upper Crystal Lake. All in all we put in about 14 miles that weekend with the little guy.
