The Hethgard Night Warriors are the highly disciplined Astra Militarum Regimentum soldiers conscripted from the Fortress World of Hethgard. Hethgard is among several Fortress Worlds in the Iron Collar which is located in the Jericho Reach sector of Segmentum Ultima. More than 4000 Terran years ago Jericho Reach (then called Jericho Sector) was lost to the Imperium of Man. Since 777.M41, the Achilus Crusade has been waged to bring Jericho Reach back under Imperial control.
Hethgard, and its sister Fortress Worlds defend the Well of Night, and within it the Jericho-Maw Warp Gate, from the varied threats of the, still largely unconquered, Jericho Reach. Additionally they serve as command centers and launch points for the Achilus Crusade. Hethgard itself is the primary command center for the Orpheus Salient of the Achilus Crusade. Key threats include the approaching Tyranid Hive Fleet Dagon, Chaos tainted worlds, T'au, and Orks (including Ork Freebooters.
